Pet of the Month - In the Limelight! at Cloquet Animal Hospital

Oliver was a stray kitty brought in by animal control to the veterinary clinic I was working at in Bemidji when he was just under a year of age. He was such a sweet and friendly cat so I took him home. He quickly fit in to his new life with another cat and dog. I was pregnant at the time and he spent the evenings sitting on my belly and pawing at it. Soon, a baby girl joined the family. He loved the little baby and spent lots of time cuddling with her. She loved him too and as she grew, she liked to play with him, give him hugs, and pull his tail. He tolerated this very well and couldn’t stay away from her. Unfortunately, when she was about a year old, we noticed she started getting hives every time she touched Oliver. The doctor confirmed our suspicions; she had a severe cat allergy. Much to our dismay, the allergy was so severe that he recommended we find another home for Oliver. Oliver is a special cat and we didn’t want him going to just any home. He had a rough start in life and didn’t want to go back to living outside. One day, Cloquet Animal Hospital received a phone call. It was a retired lady named Annette wondering if we knew of any cats available for adoption. She was looking for an adult cat that was friendly and would sit in her lap to keep her company. We immediately thought of Oliver. She came in to meet Oliver and it was love at first sight for both of them. Oliver packed up his things – his food, bed, and a few toys – and went to live with her. We see Oliver for his yearly examination and we get frequent updates from his new owner. He is doing great and has adjusted well to his new life. He spends most of his day sleeping in the sun and his evening snuggled up in her lap. They keep each other company and are very happy together. It was very hard to say goodbye to Oliver, he was part of our family and we miss him a lot. We are happy that he has found another home that he fits into so well. He is fulfilling his purpose in life and keeping Annette company. They are very happy together and have a special bond. He is now part of her family.
