Mac is my name and herding is my game. I am a Cardigan Welsh Corgi and we were bred to herd cattle! Yup, cattle! We are just 11 inches tall and we are achondroplastic which means we are all dwarfs! We have crooked little legs because they need to get around out big chests that we need to have to house our hearts and lungs which are normal sized for a dog with much longer legs. I am officially known as Suncliffe's Sullivan but they just call me Mac for short. I was bought as a show dog but I turned out to be a better pet than show dog, so I was neutered and now live with the Petersons and keep the house safe while they go out and show other dogs. And I am NOT one of the Queen's dogs. Hers are Pembroke Welsh Corgis and they are similar to us but a totally different breed. We have tails, are bigger, have larger ears and are considered more laid back than those pesky little Pems. We are all very loyal dogs. We are descendants of Bassets and Doxis, whereas, the Pems came from Skipperkees. Quite a difference! I am seven years old and the oldest of all the dogs at Vermilion, which why they chose to submit me to become the pet of the month at Cloquet Animal Hospital. I was born at Suncliff ( that's in Maine ) so I don't have a Vermilion name, I have a Suncliff name. Oh, Vermilion is really just a house like all other houses but it is the first name of the big long fancy AKC name given to show dogs. Vermilion is the name used by Barb and Steve Peterson in Saginaw. I was supposed to be a show dog but I am an orthopeadic disaster so I am a pet. And I got to stay at Vermilion because I was the first Cardigan. There is another dog almost as old as I am at Vermilion. Her name is Cochen and she was born at Rhiwelli in Wales, England. She has six of her kids living with us, Mick and Maggie are 4 years old and Moses, Milo, Molly and Maddie are almost two. Then there are three Wheatens (Miller, Mary and Morgan) and a cat named Marvin who leaves the mice for us. I am red. Cardigans come in lots of colors. Red, black, and blue. Blue is really grey and white! And black Cardigans all have red or brindle points. Most of the Corgis at Vermilion are bridle with is red and black striped,Cochen is sable which is red with black tips on the hair and Molly is black with brindle points and Cardigans have white feet, blazes, chests, and tips on their tails most of the time. Most of the other guys at Vermilion are show dogs. They have championships and will be used for breeding. But, Mick is the big show dude! He has won lots of fancy ribbons at lots of big shows but he is still a cool guy! And I am the king of the house! I rule them all! When Barb isn't around that is.
