Pet of the Month - In the Limelight! at Cloquet Animal Hospital

My name is Justice. That is the name everyone close to me knows me as. I have one of those long, complicated names that makes no sense to people other than those who own and bred me, but I am also known as Multiple Specialty Best in Show Champion Gazon The Truth Be Told. I am a 12 year old male Afghan Hound and I own and love Beth, Tom, Amanda and Dayna Collins.
I am often reminded of how I came to share my life with this family. They say it was love at first sight…at least it was for Beth! My understanding is that she said to Tom " This is the dog I have waited for my whole adult life, and I am going to find a way for him to be with us."The rest is history.
The Collins lived in Maine and I was raised in Cincinnati. Beth flew to get me, but rented a car to drive us back home so I would not have to go on a plane. I started my new life with them 10 years ago, and was suddenly part of a family of 2 other afghans, 2 standard poodles, 1 yorkie and 2 cats.
I was constantly reminded that they thought I was very special…an amazing Afghan Hound. I was taken to shows where I quickly became an AKC Champion. I started winning against the other champions, no matter where we went. People starting talking about me and Mom had to make the decision between keeping me at home or letting me travel with someone who could take me to shows all over the country. I am such an easy going dog that we all knew I would embrace the adventure. So, off we went! Even though I was used to being with my Mom in the ring, I adjusted just fine. That part of my life was one of travel, pampering, and lots of attention!
Although I was missed at home, my family made trips to see me, especially at the big National specialties. I always tried so hard to please them and was rewarded time after time! There was no lack of attention for me, and everywhere I went, I would hear people saying my name. “There is Justice.” Some people even traveled from Germany and England just to meet me!
While I was out having fun, my family moved to Minnesota. They wanted me home with them, and I had reached as high as the number 1 ranked Afghan Hound in the USA. Mom said it was time for me to come home. I met them in RI, and hopped in the car and kissed the show ring goodbye.
Once a year I go to the National Specialty to show off my children in the Stud Dog class. I have won it every time I have competed, because my children are so very beautiful! This September will be my first time that I do not go. I will stay home because I broke a bone in my leg and tore some ligaments. I will have a brand new brace made for me to wear so I can still go out and play. It is time for the younger dogs to go do their thing. Mom still tells me I am the best dog she has ever had, and that there is no amount of love in the world that is enough for me. She says I have been the most perfect gentleman and that I lift her spirits every time she touches me. She says I am the best gift a person could ever receive! I sure have tried my best to make them all happy.
I think that the girls at the animal hospital even love me! When they are wrapping my leg, it seems they love to all surround me, petting my and telling me how special I am. Of course, I enjoy it more than they do! I have children all around the world. Italy, South Africa, Germany, Mexico, Canada, USA and Mom says you can see a bit of me in each one. It has been a great life….now back to my toys!
