Pet of the Month - In the Limelight! at Cloquet Animal Hospital

“Baby Bear” Chloi – By the sounds of her name, most people expect to meet a small dog, maybe a 2 pound Yorkshire Terrier, so when they see a 136 pound English Mastiff (probably drooling all over the floor) people are a bit shocked to say the least.  I think people would also be shocked to find that Chloi, like most Mastiffs are known as the “Gentle Giants” of dog breeds.  Chloi, true to her name may look like a small baby black bear, but I am guessing a bear wouldn’t be afraid of garbage cans, small cats, ironing boards, or just about anything you wouldn’t expect a dog her size would be afraid of.  Chloi is also shy around people, often at the Cloquet Animal Hospital she will “try” to crawl under the benches in the waiting room when someone comes to pet her.  However, despite her fears she also does quite a few things that are not characteristic of the Mastiff breed, like howling whenever anyone sings, she also loves to swim and chase birds more than my parents hunting dog, and can spin in circles so fast while playing you think you were watching a tornado.  Most of all Chloi doesn’t just deserve to be Pet of the Month for her wacky personality; she deserves to be Pet of the Month because of the happiness she brings to people.  Chloi can brighten anyone’s day, and seems to know when someone has had a hard one by trying to lick away your tears, and she is always there to paw at you when you haven’t pet her enough, or to lay on your feet when they get cold, and even her loud snoring can make you laugh.  I hope by Chloi getting to be Pet of the Month, people will take a look at the next “BIG dog” they see walking down the street just a little bit differently, and look beyond the large exterior to see the often “little dog” that’s inside.
